October 2009 Newsletter Principal's Message It is time for our annual parent-teacher conferences. The conferences are set for October 8th from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The faculty and staff at Benny Bills Elementary will be contacting you for a scheduled time to meet on October 8th. As a parent and educator, please allow me to share some ideas for a successful conference with your child’s teacher. Before the conference, discuss some concerns both you and your child have about school. For example: · What does your child like about school? · What subjects are causing problems? · How does your child relate to the teacher and other students in class? · List some things about your child that may help the teacher become more familiar with your son/daughter such as hobbies, favorite sports, and anything that may cause stress. Questions for your child’s teacher are: · What are my child’s strengths and weaknesses in your class? · Is my child working up to his/her potential? · Does my child require help in any subject? · What can I do at home to insure success? The faculty and staff look forward to seeing you on October 8th. PE News We are training for a cardiovascular endurance test for 1st - 5th graders. The test will be in two weeks. Please encourage your children to be active thirty minutes every day. There is evidence that indicates that physically fit students do better academically. Please remember that we are collecting BoxTops for Education throughout the year. We collect them at the end of each month to raise money for physical education equipment. They are worth $0.10 each and come on the following products: Kleenex, General Mills cereals, Pillsbury products, Ziploc bags, Avery products, and Cottonelle paper. We appreciate your support in this effort. The class that turns in the most box tops each month gets a prize from our prize box.
